The FEO Project is a women-led sailing expedition to find environmental optimism* in island communities across the world’s oceans
*The name Feo, which means ugly in Spanish, comes from the family sailboat hosting this project, and we turned it into this sweet acronym.
Our plan
We are setting sail to share unique and powerful visions for climate resilience found in island communities in the north Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and South Pacific. We're partnering with island-based innovators and community groups to help amplify their voices and expand the reach of their work. As we do this, we're building a floating lab for environmental communication, workshopping how best to tell stories that generate hope and inspire action. We're also prioritizing low-carbon methods of adventure and living, sharing what we learn from both land and sea.
Our goals
Sail from Penobscot Bay, Maine to the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, through the Caribbean Sea, the Panama Canal, and the South Pacific.
Connect with at least one major island innovation or community project per month of the voyage.
Publish a multimedia newsletter each week, sharing stories and insights from island shores while exploring best practices for effective environmental communication.
Build a community of optimists that supports, sustains, and expands on this work through island collaboration and mainland fundraising.
